5 Marketers You Need to Know

5 Marketers You Need to Know

In a sea of mediocre marketing, only the best stand out.

Internet marketing has exploded in recent years, but it hasn’t all been good.

The experts I’m about to introduce you to are not just at the top of their game, they’re value-oriented and whip smart.

If you’re looking for get-rich-quick shortcuts, these are not the people to follow. If, however, you’re looking for true thought-leaders and bastions of customer-first marketing, look no further.

Check out these five marketers that are crushing it in the marketing world.

Ann Handley

I came across Ann in myriad ways. I have been a MarketingProfs fan for a long time, so I was aware of her work there. I also picked up her book Content Rules, and was having a Twitter conversation about it with a fellow writing nerd when she piped up in a tweet. She thanked me for recommending the book, and suggested that if I liked that one so much, I would love her newest book, Everybody Writes. She was right — it’s fantastic. She also spoke at Authority Rainmaker this year, and her Lego-strewn presentation was both insightful and hilarious.

Ann Handley is a pioneer in digital marketing. She is the Chief Content Officer at MarketingProfs, a best-selling author, a columnist for Entrepreneur magazine, and a Twitter and LinkedIn sensation. Prior to joining the MarketingProfs crew, she co-founded ClickZ.com. Forbes has cited her as the most influential woman in social media, and ForbesWoman recognized her as one of the top 20 women bloggers.

Gary Vaynerchuk

I first found Gary Vaynerchuk when I picked up his book Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. It completely changed the way I looked at social media. (Apparently social media is not supposed to be a giant, unwieldy billboard – rather, it’s supposed to be a conversation. Who knew?)

Gary grew his family’s wine business from $3 million to $60 million in just five years using email marketing and video. Today he runs the hot digital agency VaynerMedia, and is an angel investor and venture capitalist. Gary is also a powerful public speaker and an influential author, and a master of online video and podcasting.

Brian Clark

I’ve been a follower and fan of Brian’s blogging, copywriting and content marketing empire, Copyblogger, for years. So much so, I was in their first class of certification students. Brian is not only a talented marketer, he’s a successful entrepreneur many times over.

Brian founded Copyblogger in 2006, and recently rebranded and rearranged the company into Rainmaker Digital and several sub-brands: Copyblogger, Studiopress, Rainmaker.fm, Synthesis and Rainmaker Platform. Today Brian is the CEO of Rainmaker Digital and host of the multimedia experience that is Unemployable. Whether you’re a blogger, a copywriter, a content marketer or you just run (or want to run) an online business, Brian can teach you something while keeping you on the leading edge of marketing trends.

Yaro Starak

I can’t remember where I first heard of Yaro, but his name seems to pop up wherever I turn my head. His unique take on marketing, entrepreneurship and online business is hard to ignore.

Yaro is one of the most prolific and successful bloggers in the world. Today he teaches people how to use his “Blog Sales Funnel” to sell digital products and services. Check out his site, Entrepreneurs Journey for a massive collection of articles, interviews, courses, reports and podcasts about marketing, entrepreneurship, startups and personal development.

Sonia Simone

Sonia is the co-founder of Copyblogger, now co-founder and Chief Content Officer of Rainmaker Digital, and I’ve been a fan of hers for years. Besides being a really out-of-the-box marketer, she’s one of the most easy-to-talk-to people in the industry.

Sonia’s background is in traditional marketing in both the startup world and corporate environments. Sonia was a founding partner of Copyblogger Media in 2010, and has since gone on the crazy ride that is the Rainmaker brand transformation. Today she is a powerful voice in online marketing, teaching entrepreneurs and businesses that everything they communicate to their customers is marketing.
